While I was knitting...9/1

  • Crimson Peak: I'm a fan of Guillermo del Toro, so I was looking forward to watching this. It was a feast for the eyes--it's worth watching for the costume design alone. The story was pretty predictable but good fun. I enjoyed it.
  • Jane Eyre: I was feeling the gothic romances, so I decided to watch this miniseries. I've never read the book, and I got the feeling that the movie was trying to shoehorn in plot details from the book that didn't make a tremendous amount of sense on their own. I can't say I loved this one. It was more engaging than I had expected it to be, but I found Mr. Rochester to be fairly problematic as a love interest, and I guess my modern eyes and modern view of mental health issues just didn't really take to the story.
  • Bleak House: I've seen this before (and read the book), but I started rewatching it recently. Dickens sure knows how to craft a story and the acting is very good. I've seen the actor who plays Guppy in several things, including Crimson Peak and The Dark Knight Rises, but he will always be Guppy to me.

  1. I've been meaning to rewatch Crimson Peak. The first time through I wasn't super impressed with it, but the more I think about it (months later, which says something), the more I'm thinking I really liked it. It's an interesting movie.
