knottygnome crafts design: Rugby Shawl

Rugby Shawl

I came up with the design for this shawl back in 2015, right after I had published the Confetti Cake Shawl. I was in the mood for striped crescent shawls with lace. I charted the lace edging pattern combining stitch patterns from a few of my stitch dictionaries and wound up some lovely Brooklyn Tweed Loft that I had purchased right after Rhinebeck. All went well until I made a mistake on the edging and didn't feel like tinking back to fix it. Fast-forward to 2017 and I finally dug out the shawl, unpicked the mistake, and finished the knitting. Fortunately I still had all my notes and charts, even after a computer hard drive failure, so it wasn't too much trouble to reconstruct the pattern and get it published.

The Rugby Shawl is currently available for purchase on Ravelry. It begins at the neck with a garter tab cast-on and increases in wide stripes until the edging. The lace edging is an applied border worked sideways so there is no lengthy bind-off. The pattern comes in 3 sizes and has both charted and written instructions for the edging. The sample is shown in Size M. It's quite a big shawl, even in the medium size, and it will be perfect for chilly days.
