2 hats

About a month ago, I bought a bunch of Dream in Color Classy on sale at eat sleep knit. I didn't have any particular projects in mind, but I figured that basic worsted weight yarn would always come in handy. After going to Rhinebeck on Saturday, we made plans to meet up with Spicy's brother and his family at Sterling Forest. Spicy had asked me to make hats for his nephew and niece.

For his nephew I made the Chunkeanie Hat by Wooly Wormhead. I knit the smallest size using #8 knitpicks 16" circs. The color was Bootcamp. If I had a do-over, I would've made the hat just a smidge longer.

For Spicy's niece I made the Purl Bee Garter Ear Flap Hat in the smallest size with #8 16" circs. I used the color Blue Sage. The pattern called for smaller needles, but at 6 mos. she was in between sizes so i used larger needles throughout and the fit is pretty decent. I always overanalyze whether things are too cutesy or not but i think the pointy top was just cute enough without being obnoxious. in the adult sizes i think it'd be too much, unless you can pull off the ironic hipster thing.

I'd recommend both patterns. They are both free and easy and they don't take very long. it was reasonably cold and windy at the park and both hats seemed to do the job.

I'll try to be back later this week with the Rhinebeck haul, but the weather hasn't been very cooperative so far. in case anyone is wondering, i got in and out by 11:30 on Saturday. I don't do crowds very well.

  1. The hats are adorable! I think it's a lot to ask, you are so sweet to knit them up and FAST. Cute kids.
