Pretty Handspun Day

I started working towards my goal of spinning a pound of fiber this quarter with some gradient-dyed mixed BFL from Spirit Trail Fiberworks. I bought this fiber at the 2013 Finger Lakes Fiber Festival. it slowly transitions from grass green to royal blue. i split the top in half lengthwise and spun from end to end so that the colors would line up together.

I had a bobbin management issue, so I spun one single on my minispinner, one on my majacraft rose, and then plied using the minispinner. i can't really tell the difference between singles so hopefully that means i'm fairly consistent. although i spun the singles short-forward draw, the yarn poofed up quite a bit in the wash, which is really unusual for me with worsted spinning and BFL.

This skein is a DK-weight 2ply with about 250-ish yards in 4oz. it's on its way to the recipient now.

  1. That yarn is totally gorgeous! I love the bright jewel colours, and it looks like it would have some nice squish in hand.
