I've been sick and my brain is a fog so this will be as short as possible.

Pattern: Pole (gift from Jacey)
Size: 34-36
Yarn: Juniper Moon Farm Herriot in Onyx, 5 skeins
Needles: various circs, US 8/9/10
Started: February 20, Finished: March 1

I don't have much to say about the pattern. it was easy to follow. I wish that I had seamed the 2 pieces together at the end as the joins are a little messy doing it as you knit. I got pretty bored and was more than ready to knit something else at the finish.

I inserted top-down short-row set-in sleeves. I tried knitting both sleeves at once using 2 circs instead of magic loop. I didn't care for it much. At one point, I whipped the unused set of needles too fast and ended up hitting myself in the face. I think i will stick to magic loop from here on out.

I was really disappointed by the yarn. It is soft and warm but it was disgustingly dirty. While I knit my hands would turn black and when I washed the garment, i had to rinse it for almost 2 hours to get all of the dirt out. When I pulled the sweater out of the first soak there was silt in the bottom of the wash water. that's how dirty it was. it was like they never washed the fleece at all. It is possible that I just got a bad batch but I am put off from ever using this yarn again.

this sweater was on my Q1 FAL list.

UPDATE: Someone at the company contacted me and offered to send me yarn to make up for my bad experience with Herriot. I received 2 skeins of yarn (not Herriot) and I will report back with my experience once I've had a chance to use them.

  1. This looks great! It's a really sophisticated style, and you look awesome in it! Feel better soon!

  2. I've been reading your blog for a few years and I was so excited to see that you were using Herriot, as I'm the General Manager of Juniper Moon Farm. I'm incredibly disappointed that you had a bad experience, however. This is definitely not normal and we've started investigating to see if there's a larger problem or if this was a one-time issue. We've never experienced Herriot to be dirty like you described, so we're also guessing that it's a one-time thing, but are grateful to know that you had an issue so that we can make sure. We'd be happy to send you some more Herriot yarn to make up for it, if you'd like. You can email me at lauria AT fiberfarm DOT com.
