won't be long now

Garter Baby Kimono
Pattern: Garter Stitch Baby Kimono (rav)
Yarn: Wollmeise 100% Merino Superwash in Grashupfer
Size: Newborn
Needles: #2.5 knitpicks harmonies
Started: February 20, Finished: June 30

i wanted to make sure i sent this sweater before the baby grows out of it. i started it a very long time ago and finished it so late because it took forever to find buttons. at some point i lost the pattern so there are some differences. namely, i didn't work the i-cord all the way down the fronts and i knit the sleeves in the round (though i would have intentionally done that even with instructions). it was easy and the kimono style is cute for babies. it didn't take much yarn.
Pattern: Peanut the Wee Elephant from Last Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts
Fabric: Denyse Schmidt Picnic, Green Windham Fabrics (second from the right) for the ears, and some blue flannel for the blanket
i wish i had gotten more pictures so you could see the inside of the ears and the cute braided embroidery floss tail. this pattern was fairly easy and quick to put together but it was fiddly. i don't think i'm really a toy-making person. this pattern also had a ton of hand-sewing, much of which i skipped in favor of top-stitching. i embroidered the eyes because i didn't have any felt for applique. this step-by-step tutorial was helpful. i followed her advice on the blanket. he doesn't stand up quite properly so my stuffing skills are evidently not up to snuff--a detail i failed to notice until i'd already stitched the opening closed. it turned out pretty cute otherwise and i wouldn't eliminate the possibility of someday making another one...but i probably won't.

  1. The elephant is cute regardless.  It does look pretty fiddly but I'll betcha that's one of the few toys mom/dad saves when babyspawn outgrows it.

  2. i love everything you do.  i love that you embroidered his eyes.  i think that is much better for kiddo toys.  my son tries to eat the eyes off if they are anything but embroidered.

  3. So so wee and cute. Gah. I love that Wollmeise color. It's incredible. And the elephant is so precious. You are such a good auntie. I don't blame you for skipping the hand-sewing.

  4. Love the baby sweater, love the bags, and the quilts!  You got me so inspired but I don't know where to start--lol!  The problem with me is once I start quilting again, I will lose interest in knitting.  I can't seem to do both at the same time.  I'll go finish these UFOs first.
