it's getting hot in here

so evidently we skipped spring and went straight to summer. i'm pretty much dying of heat stroke already and it's not even 9:00 AM.
butterick 5495
Pattern: Butterick 5495, View C
Fabric: Rayon jersey from joann
Size: 8
Started and Finished: last week sometime.

i didn't discover until too late that my fabric had a big flaw in it. this is basically my muslin anyway--i wanted to try out the pattern. i did not like the instructions, especially for the neckline. i'll have to read over the entries on pattern review and see if others have done it better. there's a lot of stay stitching which takes all the stretch out of the fabric. if i were to make this again i'd wing it instead of using the directions. the neckline is very low, so i'd like to raise it a couple of inches at least.

otherwise i'm happy with the top. the fit and length are both pretty good and i like the sleeves. i could probably make the tunic version and wear it as a dress. it's a nice style so i might be trying it again in the near future.

btw, i thought i had finally avoided the kitty in the background, but i see now that he snuck in there after all.
Aflutter Headband from JCasa
the headband i'm wearing is from jcasa's free pattern but without the applique. i used a ponytail holder instead of regular elastic. i'm not quite sure if i'm a headband person so i thought i'd give it a try. anything is better than having my hair in my face. this only took about 10 minutes to make. i used a scrap of leftover stripey remix, purple solid connecting threads fabric, and a bit of interfacing. if you like headbands this is a good pattern.

  1. Yeah, we hit the nineties over the weekend. I'm not ready for that kind of heat yet. Your new top is cute! It does seem silly to use so much stay-stitching on a knit.

  2. I love the stripes! it was a balmy 74 degrees here over the weekend..... aaaah :)
