Delving into the Archives

Holly Jacket from Spring 08 IKHolly Jacket from Spring 08 IK
Today's Project I Finished Ages Ago is brought to you by Lionbrand Cotton-Ease and Interweave Knits, Spring 2008.

Project Stats:
Started: February 17, Finished: May 29.
Yarn: Lionbrand Cotton-Ease, 5 skeins in Charcoal
Needles: #5 and #6 knitpicks options.
Size: 33"

I can't remember too much about this one, except that I did not enjoy seaming in reverse stockinette. Instead of the weird button setup that the mag calls for, I sewed faux buttons on the outside and snaps on the inside for easy closure. The jacket fits pretty well, except for the collar. The hem makes it stiff, and it's too wide for my frame so it looks odd. I did not enjoy knitting with cotton-ease. it hurt my hands to knit at such a stiff gauge. I haven't worn this much--it's pretty heavy for summer wear.

Also, I sewed the capris in the photo. i used the built by wendy pattern, Simplicity 3850 and 1.5 yds of black poplin. I've used this pattern several times now and it's one of my favorites. Since the pattern is for "skinny pants" and the legs are a little too skinny for me, I added about 3/8" to the seams on the thighs, leaving the legs tapered with side vents.

Little Birds Sleeves
Today's Little Birds progress: The cuff on Sleeve #1 was too short, so i cut i off and reknit it on #2s and added 5 pattern repeats. Then I grafted it back onto the sleeve. The second sleeve has progressed without incident so far. At least this time I will be guaranteed not to get stuck on Sleeve Island.

  1. Impressive work on the capris--I haven't been bold enough to try my hand at making clothes yet. One day...

I like the sweater, very cute. Now that it has cooled off, maybe it will soften up with more wear.
