i finished the Ugly Yarn

2 ply handspun koolaid dyed
top is 2 ply handspun from koolaid dyed brown sheep mill ends. ~283 yds. the bottom is the leftover singles, ~78 yds.

i would love to do a handspun trade someday, but i would like to wait until i am not embarrassed to give away what i produce. i believe the 2 ply is about a sport weight. it's really unevenly spun and it's butt ugly. i am seriously debating overdyeing.

i have more in the works and a lot of knitting, but another day perhaps.

  1. Looking good though, you'll be spinning up some "nice" yarn soon, don't worry!

Overdyeing is a good option, and with KoolAid, the only two colors I actually like are grape and cherry, both in pretty high concentrations.

  2. I think your yarn looks good Knotty!

I would love to do a swap like that as well one day when I am much, much better.

  3. Personally, I like it. You'll find something interesting to do with it.

  4. I actually like the way the colors turned out, especially in the two-ply... though you really can't tell what something will look like knit up - once I dyed some sock yarn that looked like moldy apples (it was greenish, brown and red) in the skein, but turned out to look decent when it was knit up!

  5. It takes practice I imagine. It looks pretty on my monitor, but if you don't like it there is nothing to be lost by trying to overdye it to something more appealing to you.
