300 zippers and nothing on

i just bought 300 zippers. the sizes range from 4" to 24", so i figure i can use them for pretty much everything.

i've really been wanting to get back to sewing, especially since spring is around the corner, but i've had a few issues. namely, my sewing room is a disaster area. i haven't been in there since i made this dress on Xmas. seriously. like the pattern pieces for that dress are still scattered everywhere. there's bags of yarn all over the floor. i use that room as my laundry room as well, so there are always clothes and towels in various states of dryness in there. and now i have hardly any free time on the weekends, so no sewing has been done.

but that is all about to change, because now i have 300 zippers winding their way to me. the deal works out to approximately 15 cents a zipper, plus my co-worker said she will share some with me. hopefully i will not have to get stalled on a project because i don't have the right notions for quite some time.

this all came about because i wanted to buy more fabric from this lady, but she charges $8.50 for shipping. i reminded myself of all the lovely fabric i have just sitting in my stash and decided the zippers were a better way to go.

i really want to make some summer skirts, plus a couple more knit tops, and a boxy jacket, and another cabo halter, and some summer sundresses. i just remembered i cut out a white linen dress last summer and haven't sewed it because i ran out of warm weather. maybe i'll start with that one.

  1. That is a lot of zippers.

    That's all I can say.

  2. I wish I could sew. Well, now that you have notions you will be unstoppable, right?

  3. Wow that's a lot of zipper.
If you're ever stucked at what to make, you can always sew the zippers together and make a bag or something.

  4. More than a lifetime worth of zippers! and look at all those pretty colors...You will never go zipper shopping again!

  5. That's a lot of zippers. If you run out of things to do, you can start attaching them to stuff at random. You know, the kind of punky 80's look with zippers all over?

I bet you have enough zippers to bring that back!

  6. that lily allen CD is great! the lyrics are sorta dumb, but it's fun and the samples are fantastic.

there used to be this fabric store outside of baltimore that had these huuuge bins of zippers, lots of old metal ones and plastic ones, all sizes... and they were like 10 for $1, so I ended up with at least 30. Lots of fun, even though I don't sew enough either. Curious to see what you end up with!

  7. We have something in common. About a year ago I bought 200 zippers! Sure makes me happy!
