Fall Capsule Wardrobe 2017: Outer Layers

I struggle with what to call this category. They aren't tops or bottoms, but they do go over your main outfit. They aren't coats, because a coat can be worn in addition to these layers. but they can substitute for a coat if it isn't too cold. I would say "Jackets" is the closest, but vests and cardigans aren't jackets so I'm just going with "Outer Layers." There are 8 pieces from this category.

To sum up: 15 tops, 7 bottoms, 8 outer layers, and 8 pairs of shoes = 38 piece wardrobe.

Cardigans

Untitled

Long black cardigan: This one is a cashmere blend. It's fairly thin but reasonably warm thanks to the cashmere content. I probably would have preferred a grey cardigan with pockets in place of this one, but my grey cardi from my previous capsule died and i haven't had time to knit a replacement.

Jackets

Burgundy hoodie: Last time I really struggled with only building a work wardrobe and then I didn't have anything comfy to wear on the weekends. I practically live in this hoodie. They don't have the burgundy anymore but lots of other colors in this exact hoodie are here (I have the classic full zip)

Cognac leather jacket: I've been pleasantly surprised by how often I wear this jacket. The color is very versatile. I don't think I knew how much I liked this shade of brown until we got the dogs.

Light wash jean jacket (Exact): This is one of my signature items. I wear it constantly. I like that the lighter wash contrasts with so many of the darker colors that I wear. It's a great casual layer that can be worn at work with a dress or on the weekends with leggings.

Black blazer: I don't wear this as much anymore, and I'm not sure why. I do like that it dresses up a casual jeans and t-shirt outfit for work. I doubt that this will be the first outer layer I reach for in my closet during October, but it's nice to have options.

Red suede moto jacket (exact): Yay, a fun jacket! I'm so excited this time to be able to add in a few louder pieces that can make more eye-catching outfits. I'd like to wear this quite a bit but it's definitely weather-dependent. If it rains a lot or it's too hot you won't see this jacket much.

Vests

Grey puffer vest (current version): In recent years I've really become a fan of the vest, especially for fall. This one works well with a variety of tops, from sweaters, to button-downs, to tees.

Olive utility vest (from Stitch Fix): This is one of the few items I'm recycling from my last capsule. It is truly a staple item for me that I wear several times a month.
