Stitch Fix Review August 2017

I haven't ordered a Stitch Fix box in a long time, but I've been looking for some fall work items and I thought I'd give it another try.

Quick rundown if you aren't familiar: Stitch Fix is a clothing subscription box. You fill out a style profile, pay $20, and are sent 5 items picked for you by a computer algorithm and finalized by a human stylist. You have 3 days to try on the clothes and decide what to keep. Your $20 styling fee gets applied to any items you buy and if you keep all 5 items you get a 25% discount.

WAVERLY GREY Nola Ruffle Neck Blouse, SIZE XS: $118

This was my least favorite item from the preview. I thought that the print was a bit old-ladyish. I assumed that it was so expensive because it was silk, but I was wrong. It's a polyester top. I don't think I would pay $118 for even the nicest polyester top. I liked the style of the top more than I thought I would but this was a definite no. I styled it a couple of different ways, including throwing on a blazer I got from a previous fix.

NIC+ZOE Julie Slim Straight Leg Pant, SIZE 2P: $128

I really need skinny black pants for work but these didn't fit well. The fabric was oddly shiny and stiff and it bunched in weird places.

NAPEAN SEA RD Sondy Ruffle Detail Blouse, SIZE XSP: $64

Untitled

I do need a white blouse but I thought this one was a little boring. I did consider keeping it because it's not sheer and it's not completely plain, but the sleeves were a little too long and fit too tightly on my forearms. I think the tightness would always bug me so I'm sending it back.

SOLE SOCIETY Cammila Suede Loafer, SIZE 6: $79

I kind of liked these shoes. I assumed that the pointy toe would be tight on my wide feet but they actually fit well and I could wear them with my supportive insoles. I theoretically loved the mustard color. But when I put them on, I felt like my skin tone blended in too much with the yellow color of the shoes and my feet just looked weird. I really like the gold glitter ones so I might ask for those in a future box.

GILLI Haven Textured Knit Dress, SIZE S: $64

This was probably my favorite item from the box. I love the polka dots, it fit reasonably well, and the style was very me. Unfortunately the fabric was really scratchy and the unlined skirt was see-through. I'd have to wear a slip with it, which I would never do, and therefore I'd probably never wear the dress. I styled it with and without a red suede moto jacket, a statement necklace, and classic black pointy toe heels, which gave the outfit a fun 50s feel.

Verdict: Return

What do you think I should have kept? Am I just being weird about the shoes or the dress? I'm disappointed at not finding anything but I figure it's better than keeping something I won't wear. Let me know your opinion in the comments.

  1. That dress looks great on you but if it's see-through, it's not perfect. For these prices, I think that the clothes should be darn close to a perfect fit/fabric for you to keep them. I'm actually here looking for info on what this was called...I'm looking to update my work wardrobe, get some really simple, high quality, well fitting pieces so I can throw out my Target sweaters that are so easy to buy but wear out quickly and look only "okay". I might give this a try.
