What I Wore Wednesday

Two outfits this week. The first features a refashioned men's shirt i bought at a thrift store ages ago. I used a few different tutorials for transforming it into an off-the-shoulder top. It was fairly easy--the only changes i made were to very slightly curve the shoulder cut (the tutorials say to cut straight across) and I also chopped off the sleeves and hemmed them b/c leaving them at their normal length made me look ridiculous. i'm not 100% positive that this is a good look for me but it was an easy entry point to try a trendy new style with very little investment.

I had bought some inexpensive white jeans from Poshmark but they weren't quite what i was looking for. since you can't return poshmark purchases unless there's something wrong with them, I decided to distress the jeans. i did a step hem, which i actually liked so much i transformed another pair of old jeans in the same way.

My second handmade piece this week is an oldie but goodie. I recently cleaned out my clothing fabric stash and I happened to find this top. I made it several years ago--it's a Built by Wendy Simplicity pattern using some Anna Maria Horner voile which is one of my all-time favorite prints. I think perhaps I was going to take it apart and salvage the fabric b/c the top is pretty tight. It's also funny to see my sewing evolution--I'm not sure when I made this top (EDIT: Just looked it up--it was 2010!) but the seams are completely unfinished on the inside, which I haven't done for many years. At any rate, I'm glad I kept it b/c it's perfect for spring.
