Speckled Gradient Cowl + Memorial Day Sale

Yay for a Friday Finish!

Speckled Gradient Cowl

Last weekend, I tried a new dyeing technique. I wound a skein of my Elf Worsted MCN into a yarn cake and then dyed it with logwood. It produced this speckled gradient effect, where the outside of the cake was saturated with purple and the inside was mostly white with a few speckles where the logwood dyed the outer parts of the cake. I couldn't wait to see the effect, so I knit a very simple stockinette cowl with garter edges on #8 circs. I used the entire skein of yarn to get the maximum gradient effect. This cowl will be in my craft shop by tomorrow. I forgot to write down the dimensions otherwise it would be listed now.

I still have some experimenting to do with gradient dyeing--next time I will wind the cake much looser so that more dye penetrates the skein. but i'm definitely having fun with it and there will be more skeins like this.

I'm having a Memorial Day Sale in both my craft and yarn shops. Everything is 15% off through Monday, no coupon code necessary. Sale ends at midnight on Monday.

  2. I super love this! I think the gradient is awesome and what a neat idea for how to get the effect. I've been looking for gradient yarn but this is even better because of the speckles. I hope you make more because I would totally buy it!
