Pretty Handspun Day: Aquarium

I'm halfway towards my FAL goal of spinning a pound of fiber this quarter.

Aquarium 2ply Polwarth Handspun

This is Aquarium: 2ply worsted weight, 190yds/110g. It's polwarth spun short-forward draw and soaked and thwacked to finish. I spun the singles on my Rose and plied on the Minispinner. This started out as the braid on the right. I split it into 2 parts lengthwise and then spun them from opposite ends so that it would barberpole. There's a little bit of color overlap but for the most part I got the effect I was going for.

Polwarth remains one of my favorite fibers. I love how bouncy it is. This skein would be perfect for a quick knit hat or pair of mittens. It's available for purchase in the yarn shop.

  1. That yarn is fantastic! And I agree - there is something about Polwarth that just delights me. I can't resist spinning with it when I get the chance.
