Rainbow Star

Rainbow Star Pillow

I sat down to play with my Pyramid ruler last week. I wanted to use diamonds and triangles to make a star without piecing by hand or using Y-seams. I sketched my idea and pulled rainbow scraps plus a little Collage for the hexagon. I auditioned a few different background fabrics but settled on one of my new favorites, essex yarn-dyed in denim.

Rainbow Star Pillow

I paired the front with a plain envelope back in essex. I debated whether I should use a rainbow stripe binding, but ultimately decided it would've been too much. i hand-quilted the cover with various colors of DMC #8 perle cotton. I used Hobbs 80/20 batting. so far it's my favorite batting to use for hand-quilting. the finished result is so soft.

I love this pillow. I think it might be one of the happiest things i've ever made. I have grand plans to expand on it and make a larger quilt, but those are on hold for now. This pillow cover is in the shop.
