Sparkling Diamonds

i finally busted out the camera for an epic photo session, so i have lots to blog about over the coming week.

Sparkling Diamonds Baby Quilt

yay, i can cross another old WIP off the list. i started this quilt last year when i joined the Pink Castle Fabrics Stash Stack Club. my ambitions were initially much greater. i only ended up using a handful of fabrics from the club to make value HSTs. at some point i decided it was too much color and that i hated it, which landed it in fabric purgatory for a long while until i couldn't stand looking at it anymore and decided to get it finished. like several other quilts i've made, i did a complete reversal when it came out of the wash and now i love it.

i used a textured basic diamond fabric and a strip of essex linen in white for the backing and a white faux bois from les amis for the bias binding. i think that the white helps to contain all that color and makes it a little more bearable.

the quilting is some simple loops, though on a slightly larger scale than my default. i used connecting threads essential in a beige color to quilt. i prefer aurifil but i'm trying to use up older threads in my stash. the final size is 36" x 46".

I think this quilt would be perfect for a baby girl whose parents embrace lots of color. it's listed in the shop.

  2. This is gorgeous....I don't think you can have too much colour, but I know what you mean sometimes I get like that, I want something subtler, but your quilt works perfectly :)

  3. Beautiful. I often get overwhelmed at some point when I make colour heavy quilts - glad I'm not the only one who flip flops on these things!

  4. I love this! There's a lot of color, but the pattern totally keeps it all under control. :) Pinning this to my inspiration board....
