I am not so good at the taking pictures part. I've been saving these up for awhile, waiting for the perfect springtime flowers to pop up. i ended up settling for sage blossoms.
When I was younger, my mom and I both worked at Hobby Lobby. At some point we found this booklet for a cat quilt. Even though neither of us had ever quilted anything, we bought the book and picked out fabrics and other supplies. and then we never made the quilt. i can't remember exactly what it looked like now, though I believe it was applique. but i know we chose bright vintage calicos in fun candy colors. the memory of that almost-quilt was in my mind when i made this table runner. i used mostly denyse schmidt fabrics for a vintage modern vibe and a bone colored cotton couture for the background. i used my blackkitty handprint on linen for the backing with a few scraps thrown in. i fmq the swirled hook from the angela walters book to evoke cat claws. it's such a cute kitschy block design--i might revisit and make a baby quilt eventually.
I've been wanting to make some holiday/winter items for the shop. Spicy and I are not much into traditional Christmas colors but I've always loved the Brrr line by Laurie Wisbrun. I started with her cute polar bears and picked out coordinating prints in reds, aquas, and greys. i took a cue from Melissa's strip quilt and did something similar, cutting strips of varying widths from fat quarters and randomly sewing them together. on this one i wanted to keep the quilting minimal, so i quilted straight lines 1/4" away from each strip. I used grey organic cotton canvas for the backing. my favorite part of this runner is the candy cane striped bias binding and the 2 rounded corners.
The last runner is also meant to be seasonal, though I think it's neutral enough to be used year-round. i knew when i picked up this constellations fabric that i wanted to make star blocks. i've used this block design before on my dad's quilt. i picked coordinates for the background based on the colors in the star fabric. i threw in a couple of other lizzy house prints for fun. on this one, i stippled the background and hand quilted the stars with perle cotton. the backing is another organic cotton canvas and i rounded all 4 corners.
i love all of 3 these runners and will be sad (but happy!) to part with them. they are all listed in the shop.
