Baby's First Hipster Blanket

Baby's First Hipster Blanket

I had so much fun making this. I was itching to use this stack of Geekly Chic i bought from hawthorne threads. i decided that an improv log cabin with large centers would really show off the fabric. I pulled other fabrics from my stash that i thought best represented the hipster mentality and paired them with white essex linen. I made 12" blocks using the essex as the outer round, very similar to this quilt from way back when. The linen shrunk quite a bit and the finished blanket is about 34" square.

For the back, i kept it simple with essex yarn-dyed flax in denim. The texture and hand remind me of chambray, which I thought meshed well with the hipster theme. The binding is a fat quarter of hot pink Moda Quilt Blocks cut on the bias and handstitched to the back.

This sushi fabric is one of my very favorites of all time. i quilted in an irregular grid pattern using Aurifil 50wt white thread, simulating plaid. This quilt is listed in the shop. This quilt has sold but I can make another if you're interested in a custom order.
