I finished spinning this fatcatknits fiber for a custom order. The blue/green is falkland, 2ply DK weight, 300yds/4oz. The multi-colored is polwarth, 2ply sport weight, 205yds/2oz. My camera didn't do a great job of capturing the colors. the polwarth is brighter and prettier in real life.
Both skeins were spun in the same way using the fractal method. I divided the tops in half lengthwise. One half was spun from end to end and the other was further divided vertically into thinner strips. I spun them both longdraw from the fold. I used my spinner's control card to try to stay consistent. it slowed me down quite a bit but i'm not sure it was really all that helpful. i don't use it very much anymore and i didn't see a visible difference in consistency from my usual spin.
Both skeins were felted to finish. I utilized my new gloves to plunge the skeins in alternately hot and cold water. How sad is it that i'm genuinely excited about owning "Dexter's mom" gloves because i finally found a pair in a size small enough to fit? anyway, i finished up with a good bit of therapeutic thwacking.
i had almost forgotten what it was like to spin multi-colored fiber. i've been on a kick lately with semi-solids. it was fun to spin and i hope that my customer likes it!
