i borrowed Quilting Modern from the library. it's a great improvisational technique book. i learned tons just browsing through it. i was itching to try the stitch and flip triangles. they are so versatile, as you can see.
i gathered aqua and citron scraps and used a chocolate brown connecting threads solid fabric. after a lot of rearranging i settled on a wonky zigzag pattern. i added a narrow kona border in lagoon to bring it up to 16". then i straight line quilted it in a jagged zigzag pattern. it probably took me twice as long to quilt as it did to piece the pillow top. i used brown essential cotton thread and of course i ran out of bobbin thread right before i finished. (am i the only one who hates when that happens?)
the backing is a connecting threads fabric i got from Melissa. i think it's a fun print that coordinates with the top without being too matchy. i have a little bit leftover that would make a cute pouch.
i tried a new zipper installation. i put it in the bottom of the pillow to enable me to have just one unbroken back piece. i'll probably do this again for pillows. i like using all-purpose zippers over invisibles because in my experience invisible zips aren't as strong and will break at the most inconvenient time. i can't quite decide if it looks ok, but Spicy assures me it does.
