my Sailor Mouth Swap partner received her package already so I can share the deets of what I made. firstly, i got a little nervous when i pulled my name out of the proverbial hat and saw it was imagingermonkey. i'm a big fan of her blog and her scrap vomit quilts (i'm actually in the middle of making one right now). Katy's personality really shines through on her blog so i had a pretty good idea of what i wanted to do.

for an extra, i knit a cowl out of some colorways handspun. it's a simple basketweave pattern on big needles--#13 maybe? i didn't use a pattern. the colors in the yarn reminded me just a little bit of the orange soda pop quilt. it's a chain-plied corriedale yarn, chunky weight.
ok this is really your last chance to look away. don't say you weren't warned.

i used to be an avid cross-stitcher as a kid but i haven't done it for years. i bought a pattern from andwabisabi. i'd had my eye on it for quite awhile. i used a regular embroidery needle because i don't have any cross stitch needles and some linen from joann fabrics. linen was maybe not the best option since i haven't cross-stitched in such a long time but i managed. i used my own colors. i should have gone a bit lighter on the poo brown but i think it looks ok. i stitched the piece into a pincushion stuffed with crushed walnut shells. the back is a scrap of melody miller viewmaster fabric. if i had this pincushion on my sewing table it would bring a smile to my face so i'm hoping Katy feels the same way.
on her questionnaire, Katy had asked for a "pouch to hold her shit." i used my big shot to cut a bunch of 2" squares out of scraps. i used the scraps and some essex linen to make noodlehead's open wide zipper pouch in the large size. i used orange metro circles for the lining and added a wrist strap.

the rhyme is part of an old ultimate frisbee cheer i learned in college. i immediately thought of it when i signed up for the swap because it's pretty much the dirtiest thing i've ever heard. fortunately Katy has a great sense of humor about such things and she refrained from pearl-clutching. i'm not sure if it were mine that i'd ever take this pouch outside my house but it was great fun to make for the swap. i did get a few raised eyebrows from Spicy and probably the cats too. or maybe i have a slightly guilty conscience.

Of course, I find all of this to be perfection. I especially love the pouch and its message. Heh. Katy is very lucky!
Oh, hilarious. I'm not familiar with this particular nursery rhyme, but I saw Katy raving about it on twitter the other day. You did a fabulous job and I really love the cowl!

Wow - what a pouch!! Yes, Katy is definitely a gal who could cope with this 'potty talk!' I blushed reading teh second side!! The things I made for my partner are very, very tame compared to this! Love it!
love the pouch - Katy wouldn't show the rude bits on her blog so I'm glad you're braver - I haven't heard that rhyme before but its very funny !! love the cowl and little pincusion as well :)
