Mom Jeans

I can't seem to stop the outfit photos even though MMM is over. the top is another item on probation. it's really too large and i need to either alter it or get rid of it.
Jalie Jeans
I did manage to make one item of clothing during May. I stitched another pair of jalie jeans. I needed to make one more alteration to the pattern and i wanted to test it out first before cutting into either my black or yellow fabric (which of course, i haven't done yet). i added 3/4 of an inch to the front waist and it was a tiny smidgen too much. fortunately i can still wear them with a belt. the pictures were taken after a full day of wear so i'm happy that they didn't show any evidence of sag and bag syndrome.
Jalie Jeans
i used some black stretch denim from joanns stitched with navy thread. i still have enough fabric left for another pair. i like wearing capris in the summer but these photos remind me that they aren't the best look for me. i think the pants need some distressing or...something to make them look less like old lady jeans. i think i would feel perfectly comfortable if they were full length pants but something about the cropping just feels like "woman in her 40s to me." it's making me doubt my plan to make the cropped black and/or yellow pants. maybe i'll just make them full length instead and suffer the heat. or maybe they should be a little longer, more like pedal-pusher length? or would that just look like my pants are too short?

  1. I struggle with capris too.  I think it's the length that does it in for me.  I think they make me look stumpy, and I'm already short.  I wish I had advice on the best look to go with, alas I can only commiserate!

  2. I think they look great, but perhaps if the bottom cuff was a little less fitted to the calf?  A slight flair even might give it a younger look?  But meh, my fashion sense sucks to take what I say with a grain of salt!  Still think they look great.

  3. I can't really wear capris, so I can't offer advice, other than maybe make them a smidge shorter, almost board short length? I wouldn't go the pedal pusher route. Those feel older to me for some reason. They look great, though!

  5. I agree with jacey about making them a bit shorter, so they hit in the narrow part of your calf below the knee. I don't think these look very "momish", but in non denim they might. I still admire that you can sew pants at all though!
