Retro Flowers

Retro Flowers
My retro flowers quilt is all finished! Mine is 54" square. The flower blocks are 14" with 2" sashing between blocks and a 4" border.

I used kona medium gray for the background and the flowers are DS quilts sugar creek, valori wells gypsy caravan, joel dewberry modern meadow, DS quilts picnic, FMF, amy butler lotus dots, hello pilgrim bracelet, DS quilts daisy mae, DS quilts aunt edna. the binding is echo.

for the backing, i decided to play with grey and yellow. i used echo as the main fabric and made more drunkard's path blocks to create a yellow column that mimics the echo fabric. the column uses various yellow solids and michael miller dots with kona white (or snow, i can't remember). i also added in a little DS quilts aunt edna at the bottom.

i used yellow connecting threads cotton thread for the quilting and did concentric circles and semi circles 2 inches apart. i wasn't sure i was going to like the quilting at first but now that it's washed i love it.

i decided to keep the quilt as a throw blanket on my couch. i'm really happy with how it turned out and i couldn't love it any more.

  4. Thanks! Yes, I've used CT several times now and i actually like it better than gutermann. it appears to be less linty, though it is rather thick. (good for quilting if you like that sort of thing, maybe less good for piecing)

  5. Sara, this is great!!!  What template/die/etc. did you use to cut out your drunkard's path blocks?  I'm planning a similar quilt and am still debating.

  6. I used my big shot drunkard's path dies (there are 2 to make the one block). i think that technically they make 8" finished blocks but i wanted to accurately be able to square them up so my finished blocks ended up 7". hope that helps!

oh yeah, on the back, i used the same dies but the blocks are smaller--6" i think.

  7. I'm so infatuated with this quilt! I was talking to a friend of mine about it this weekend and how it's almost enough to make me take up the craft. Really, really nice work!
