Four

i must be really motivated, because i am very close to making every single piece in my spring/summer clothing plan.

I'll start with Simplicity 2219.
Simplicity 2219
i did my usual browse of pattern review and i found someone who had the exact same idea as me. even though it really doesn't matter, i didn't want to copy, so i added some leftover cotton/poly interlock from one of my renfrew tops as a contrast to the ikat print. i got that idea from this person--though in retrospect it would have made a lot more sense to make the middle back the contrast instead of the sides. oh well.
Simplicity 2219
the pattern was very easy to put together and i like that the bodice is fully lined. it's a very comfortable dress to wear and will be perfect for hot summer days. i made a size 8 based on the other reviews which recommended to go down a size. by doing this i was able to leave out the elastic under the bust since it is a close fit without it. i ended up removing 10 inches from the skirt--7 before cutting and 3 more after trying it on and tripping over the hem. i did a narrow rolled hem on my serger and plan to always wear the dress with flats so that partly explains the dramatic shortening (aside from my just being 2 feet tall).

i'm very happy with this dress and i like it much more than i thought i would. i probably won't make the dress again but i should wear this one a lot throughout the summer months.

  1. it's really flattering! I honestly never think of wearing a maxi dress; not sure why (maybe the name?). But seriously, this is lovely on you! I love the print, and your contrast blue is perfect.

Wow that dress is stunning! I probably would not have liked the ikat fabric on the bolt but wow it is beautiful!

  5. That is gorgeous!  Right before I read the part about the side panels I was thinking how great they looked in the contrasting fabric.  I so want to make this dress now - thanks for the inspiration!
