I originally made this mini-quilt for a friend, but i'm a little embarrassed to give it away. my free motion quilting looks terrible. i think i really need to switch to the open-toe foot and get more practice.
it's a 20" square wonky log cabin. the embroidery in the center is a free pattern from Cate Anevski. i had a lot of fun stitching this one up. i learned some new stitches via the wild olive tutorials. i used DMC floss and 3 strands. the background is kona bone. i wasn't sure if i should quilt over the embroidery but that seemed weird so i tried to quilt around it. that left a blank spot on the back but i think it was the right thing to do.
the back is more kona bone with a wonky stacked coin strip. i love how simple it is but not quite plain.
i added the year and my initials to the hanging tab, but i really need to remember not to place it so close the binding. seeing my initials like that always reminds me of buying my house and having to initial the paperwork eleventy bazillion times. Thank goodness i didn't have to embroider my initials or i'd still be at the closing. i used one strand and used teeny tiny stitches for the initials. note to self: make them larger next time.
i really think i need to do something else for my friend but i do think this quilt is cute as long as you don't look too closely. i'm thinking about hanging it in my kitchen as wall art.
