My Peggy Olson Dress

Are you looking for the giveaway post?

I think that summer might finally actually be on its way--thank goodness, since spring got rained out this year. i'm welcoming it with a new dress.
My Peggy Olson Dress
this is simplicity 2444. i used a bit less than 2 yds of lisette gingham fabric.

i made the sleeveless view with self-fabric bias tape at the neck and armholes. i stitched the tape on the wrong side and flipped it to the right to topstitch so that i'd have a nice visible contrasting edge. i cut a size 8 at the shoulders, grading to a 12 at the waist, and then back to a 10 for the skirt. it fits really well. i was pleasantly surprised. i think i cut 5 inches off the skirt and made a 2.5" blind hem.
My Peggy Olson Dress
i did not have a matching zip, so i did a lapped zipper in the back. i absolutely stink at matching patterns. i try but it's not my strong point. oh well.
My Peggy Olson Dress
i added the side seam pockets but i'm not a huge fan. i'd probably just leave them out next time or convert to yoke pockets.

i love this dress. it was very easy to make, though i didn't really follow the instructions. i like the unique dart shaping and the flirty swingy skirt. this will definitely go in the tried and true pile and i'm hoping to make at least one more this summer.

i feel like peggy olson in her transitional wardrobe stage. smart, neat, professional, but still cute. now if only i had a 60s hair flip.

  3.  Lovely! Peggy's my favorite character and I love this Lisette pattern! Definitely a keeper. And perfect with the wide gingham, it really shows off the interesting darts in the middle. Your skirt looks fuller than mine, did you increase the fullness? Hmm, there's an idea ...
