i finally started the quilt back for my strip quilt.
i know i've seen a tutorial for this block before, but i couldn't find it for the life of me, so i just stared at this photo for a long time and winged it. i used a portion of the same fabrics in the top plus some kona khaki.
i tried a new method of making HSTs. i didn't really find it much easier than the normal way, honestly, and the bias edges gave me fits when it was time to trim. Trimming HSTs is really my least favorite part anyway. i started with 4.5" squares but there was a lot of waste when i trimmed it to 2.5" squares, so i could've started smaller.
i'm trying to focus on making more interesting quilt backs. i'm starting with this 12.5" square as my base and i want to do something kind of like this. i'm pretty sure i don't have enough kona khaki left to do the entire background fabric but i'm sure i'll find a way to wing it. i think i'm going to frame this block with a dark brown fabric and then add 2.5" patchwork squares around it. i haven't decided for certain though. maybe i'll do a log cabin with this block as the center. what do you think?
