it's all coming together, pretty much

a bunch of things coalesced in my newest quilting project. i've been wanting to do a quilt-as-you-go quilt for awhile. i have a ton of scraps and batting to be used. i have a queen-sized bed that needs a quilt. i have this stack of fat quarters to use for a special quilt. i really like this quilt.
Quilt As You Go
so here it is--a few blocks of it anyway. i've made 6 blocks so far. i have managed to stick to piecing scraps of batting and i have enough leftovers for several more blocks. it feels good to use up batting that i've been saving for vague ideas like coasters but really how many coasters can you make?
Quilt As You Go
they are 15.5" square with 1" logs. all of the centers will be red squares, as i read somewhere that it's traditional. i'm using all print fabrics and each fabric will be used only once in an individual block.
Quilt As You Go
the bad part is that i'm already tiring of the project because you have to sew one log on at a time and it takes forever to make one block. i worry that i won't reach my queen size quilt goal since i'll need 48 blocks. i'm aiming for a large lap quilt at the very least. i do want this to be our warm weather coverlet so i still have plenty of time.
Quilt As You Go
i'm using my it's a hoot bundle for the backing. i also repeat the backing fabric in one log on the front of each block. i'm saving all the scraps though--maybe for a future string quilt. i really love this line of fabric.

  1. Your blocks look great so far. I love that It's a Hoot fabric as well. I haven't stashed nay yet, but I've been eyeing it. I'm glad you're able to use up some scraps!

  2. The blocks look awesome! I agree they take forever to get all those pieces on there, but I'm hoping since the quilting is done it comes together fast in the end?

And I ADORE It's a Hoot, especially the egg prints. :D

  3. Wow, that's going to be so pretty! I finially tried this technique making placemats for a friend for Christmas. I added the backing after quilting though...how are you going to attach the blocks together?

  4. WOW - this is going to be an amazing quilt! Just do one block/day and you will have a gorgeous bed quilt in a little over a month - that will ALREADY be quilted! (I've never done quilt as you go - need to try that!)
