i was finally able to grab a supported spindle. this tibetan spindle is from a spinner's lair on etsy.
the whorl and matching bowl are mahogany and the shaft is black walnut. i took it for a spin last night and it's amazing how it just keeps going and going.
i tried a few different things. this is a wisp of english angora. i grabbed a piece of raw fiber from the bag so it's a little lumpy. when i spin this for reals i'll card it first. i also tried some alpaca/seacell. this spindle is nice because while you can spin very fine singles you can also spin thicker ones.
i settled on spinning one of my leftover dyakcraft corriedale batts. i'm spinning it longdraw for a 2ply yarn and it's working well so far, though winding on takes awhile and is probably my least favorite part of using a spindle. it's nice to be able to sit on the couch and spin.
