5,6,7 times the charm

i haven't been able to finish spicy's birthday pillow yet, but at least i did have something to give him when we got home from the wedding (which happened to be shortly after midnight--spicy's birthday).
Spicy's slippers
Pattern: Fiber Trends Felted Clogs
Size: Women's L
Yarn: Lionbrand fisherman wool, brown sheep lamb's pride worsted, aarlan alpaca silk
Needles: #13 knitpicks zephyr
Started: October 29, Finished: October 30 (but also kind of not quite finished yet)

last winter at one point, spicy tried on my felted clogs and commented on how my slippers were so much warmer and more comfortable than his. i offered to make him a pair but winter had almost ended and i had eleventy hundred other things to do. i decided that they'd make a nice gift.

and then i nearly forgot about his birthday and remembered just in time to whip out a pair. i used some manly colored leftover yarns. i had many loads of laundry to do so it was good timing. and then i felted the slippers in load after load. they didn't want to felt. i think it took 5 times to lose stitch definition. i'd wait until i gathered another load of laundry and then run them through again. still they were resisting. finally i ran them without putting them in mesh laundry bags. that seemed to do the trick. they came out the way they look in the picture above.

spicy tried them on and dammit--they are still a little bit too large. so i'll run them again eventually but i haven't done it yet. he is happy about the warmth and coziness. i skipped adding non-stick bottoms because he said he doesn't need it.
