over the weekend, i got lazy. on saturday i wore a pair of noro knee high socks that i have yet to get around to photographing, and sunday, i didn't wear anything handmade at all. i had frisbee in the morning and when i got home and showered, i wore my pjs and sat on the couch and watched football all day long. not a bad way to spend a sunday, but bad for keeping up with self-stitched september.
Pattern: McCalls 5591, View A
Fabric: cotton pique from a fabricmart bundle
i made the view with yoke pockets, but i left off the contrasting band at the bottom. in this way i was able to avoid shortening the hem. if i'd made one of the other views i'd have had to cut off several inches.
i did french seams on the side seams and pockets and a lapped zipper instead of centered. this is a very easy skirt--a great basic that i'm sure i'll use again. because i left off the bottom band i did a 5/8" hem. next time i might lengthen it just a little bit so i can do a deeper hem. also the skirt sits at the natural waist which is slightly uncomfortable, so i might take smaller seams next time so it'll sit lower.
i realized this morning that despite being a basic black and white, i have nothing to wear with this skirt. i really need to make a few nicer blouses for fall. i like the style and it's a great pattern--nothing to blow anyone away but nice.
