so i've had 4 yards of this red jersey fabric in my stash for years. i had planned to sew a dress, but i became paralyzed when having to decide what style of dress i wanted to sew. i found rostitchery's tutorial for an infinity dress with only one seam. it seemed doable.
i am lucky that i'm short enough that i could cut a circle skirt long enough to fit me without having to do side seams. i got a bit overzealous when cutting the waist, however. i was shaving off a bit at a time to make sure the fit was right but then i overdid it, so i had to insert some 1/2" elastic in the waistband so that the skirt will stay up.
originally i was going to finish all the seams with a rolled hem but i got lazy. and actually i'm not sure i would want to draw attention to the edges of the bands.
i love the swishiness of the skirt. this look is very marilyn.
it takes a little bit of work to make sure that everything gets properly covered and that it's wrapped securely enough. there are a lot of looks that i've chosen not to work, just because they're a bit too revealing for my taste.
this one's actually my favorite. i like the asymmetry in the back.
i think it looks dressy enough that i could wear it to a cocktail party (if i ever went to such things) but it's versatile so i can also wear it to a more casual affair. ok, i wore it to the grocery store, but only because it was laundry day.
i think i made the right choice. now i have a gorgeous red dress with limitless style possibilities, and it only took an evening to sew.
