i went to joann fabrics over the weekend and they had an awesome selection of fabric. i'm not used to seeing so many quality options. i picked up a couple yards of rayon jersey, 2 shirting fabrics, some red sweatshirt fleece and ribbing to make a hoodie, and this floral 100% linen. it's very soft and lightweight and i adore the print. i bought all that was left on the bolt--i wish there had been enough for a dress.
Pattern: Sew U a-line skirt
Fabric: ~1yd of 100% floral linen from joann
Size: M graded to S at hem
Started and Finished: June 14
i wish that the skirt sat a little lower on the waist, but this is what happens when i don't make a muslin first. instead of a center back zip, i cut both front and back on the fold and put the zipper on the left side. i have 80 bazillion zippers but none are black or white, so i went with what i thought was grey but turned out to be periwinkle. i probably should've done a lapped zipper construction instead of centered, but oh well. i also hate sewing on hook and eyes with a passion. i sewed the facing to the outside as it states in the book to make a (fake) waistband. i was too lazy to hem by hand though it would have looked better. i really wish i had a machine with a blind hem stitch.
this is the perfect summer skirt. i'm sure i'll make a few more before the season ends. i might be getting the hang of this sewing thing, finally.
