easy street

after the wrap top, i wanted to sew something mind-numbingly easy. awhile back, i had seen this shirred waistband skirt at old navy and figured it would be a cinch to make my own.
Shirred Skirt
i used some red linen-like fabric that i got from my mom's stash. i assume it's not actually linen because it doesn't wrinkle. i used a basic a-line skirt pattern (an old-school butterick) and added width to the waist.

i sewed the side seams and finished both hems and did the shirring with black thread, as i didn't have any red thread on hand. just for the record, i don't normally wear my shirts tucked in...i just wanted to show the shirring.

a very comfy and easy skirt. i might make another one in black, maybe a long skirt next time.

  1. It's very cute! I've never done shirring; I'm hoping it looks more complicated than it actually is, yes?

  2. What Jacey said--is shirring hard? I don't know if it would look good on me, but it's cute in little baby dresses.
