introducing blackkitty

thanks for the comments about #2. i really appreciate them. we've had some additional challenges over the holiday. we brought spicy's other cat, blackkitty, to the vet also to be tested for feline leukemia, and fortunately she was negative. we had always planned to move his cats over to our house, but we weren't sure how to do it with one positive and three negative cats. we knew that blackkitty's life would already be disrupted by the loss of #2, so we went ahead and moved her to the new house.
blackkitty
it could be worse, but the situation hasn't been easy either. basically all 3 kitties have decided that they hate each other. Wyatt and Ellie do a lot of passive-aggressive hissing and growling at each other b/c they're too cowed by the newcomer. blackkitty has decided she is in charge and no one else is allowed on whatever furniture she is on. this is an improvement. at first no one else was allowed in whatever room she was in. we're trying to be patient and we're not expecting them to be best friends right away, but it's been a trial to keep cat fights at bay. also just having 3 cats is a lot of cat to have. it seems like i trip over a cat whenever i walk anywhere (that's blackkitty's fault--she likes to stay underfoot) and/or pick cat hair out of everything (which let's face it--that was a problem before, it's just worse now).

anyway. i had planned out a yearly retrospective, but since it is now January 5, and after reading everyone else's, i just don't have it in me anymore. instead i'll leave you with a skein of overdue handspun.
88% corriedale/12% silk
i finished this in december. it's 88% ruppert's corriedale, 12% tussah silk. one ply was carded on the drum carder as a corrie/silk blend, and the other is just teased locks. this was spun short-forward draw and felted to finish. 135yds/99g, light worsted weight. i'll probably dye it and knit a hat eventually.

  1. I am sorry for your loss of kitty #2.
I don't know how to solve the cat problem, except maybe build a couple of those cat towers out of carpet and plywood, so they can play their dominance games from high and low and stay out from under foot.

  2. Hee hee! That tongue!

Yeah Squeaky and Springs don't really dig each other either..but they've learned to tolerate each other. I envy those people who post pictures of their cats cuddling. That will never happen here.

P.S. That CMF Fiber Club looks VERY tempting!

  3. Have you tried the Feliway plugin at all? That really helped Calvin and Ripple when I first brought Calvin in.

  4. Ugh, good luck with kitty integration! It's like getting multiple divas to share one dressing room... not easy.

  5. Here's hoping your cats learn to play and get along. They will eventually. Something will have to give. Even they will tire of the drama :)
