End of May Mittens
i love this set. i used a provisional cast-on, knit the lining for a few rows, then added the braid from the inga hat (the mitten braids go in opposite directions). i knit 2 rows of blue then started the chart. after finishing the outer portion, i unzipped the provisional cast-on and knit the lining. for both linings, i mostly winged it. i didn't try to match the shapings in the outer pattern. i grafted the tips of the mittens, but i probably wouldn't if i did it over again. i used less than one skein of everything, with a very respectable amount of both the green and blue leftover, and over half of the purple.
End of May hat and mittens
if i were to do it again, i'd knit the long version of the hat. my hat barely covers my ears--it's the perfect beanie length, but not as warm as it could be. the mittens especially are super thick. next time i would use a thinner yarn for the lining out of an ultra-warm fiber like cashmere. ever since i saw kathrynivy's red and white version (rav), i kind of want to knit it again.

in case you couldn't tell, i really love these. my favorite part is the subtle shading of the two colors and how they interact with one another. i wore the set today even though it's 40 degrees. i kind of felt like i was in a really soft oven but i didn't care.

  2. The set is just beautiful! I love the colors, inside and out. Yeah, my hats need to cover my ears good, or I don't need a hat at all.
I've never knit mittens with lining, but I guess I will eventually.

  4. Oooh beautiful! How luxurious that they are both fully lined.

I really like your mods with the braid--and thanks for your nice compliment on my mittens. I'm ready to make another pair too after seeing Yours!
