Habitat by Brooklyn Tweed
i love my end of may hat but i really wanted a hat that would cover my ears. i had a substantial amount of madtosh leftover, so i decided to knit this hat. i wanted it to be slouchy so i went up a needle size for the cabled portion. i also picked up stitches from the cable cast-on and knit a 4 inch lining using my merino/silk singles handspun.

i'm planning to knit this same hat with a full-size lining for spicy. however, i'm hoping that the fact that mine is slouchy will be enough to disguise the fact that we own the same hat. i am still debating whether i should add a pompom to mine. spicy says it looks better without but i think it could be cute.

like other superwash wools, madtosh worsted really grows in the wash. the hat was fairly fitted before i washed it. i love the brilliant green and it keeps my ears warm. mission accomplished.

  1. oh, Habitat looks really cute slouchy! I love that green color, too. I think the slouch (and color) factor is enough to not make it not look like you and Spicy have the same hat. :)

  2. Beautiful hat! I hear you on the ear covering, mine always hurt when it's windy out and my hat doesn't cover them. Now, you'll be all warm and happy.

  4. Beautiful! Try the pom pom, if it looks lame, you can easily cut it off.
