Pretty Yarn Day: Laceweight Edition

Pink Merino 2ply handspun
i've been working on this one off and on for several months.

it's 1264yds/158g of 2ply merino handspun. fiber was purchased from delly's delights booth at rhinebeck 2008.
spun short-forward draw, soaked and thwacked

i did 4 skeins b/c the thought of spinning and then having to wind 1200 yds of handspun all in one go was exhausting. i can't decide whether to make a lightweight sweater or another shawl.

spinning laceweight is much easier when i don't use the woolee winder. it took me awhile to figure that out. i've heard a lot of people swear that you need the lace kit and/or high speed head, but i did just fine using the regular round orifice flyer and bobbin. it might be nice to have those accessories someday, but by no means do i think it's a necessity to make laceweight yarn.

  1. I can get a pretty fine weight myself without changing to the faster side of the bobbin on my wheel. Glad to know it's not just me.
I love the soft pink. I'll have to hit DD's at R-beck assuming my partner in crime is healed enough to go!
