Would you like to meet my new baby?

some kid with bad bangs
no, no, no. not that kind of baby.
Majacraft rose
My brand new Majacraft Rose finally arrived last night! I ordered it the week after Rhinebeck from Woolly Designs for a great price. i got wonderful service from Tracy, who endured my undoubtedly annoying 8000 questions. (has it shipped yet? how bout now?)
Majacraft rose
isn't it beautiful?
Majacraft rose
naturally, a couple of weeks after I had placed my order, a rose was posted on my local craigslist for a very low price. that was disappointing, but i convinced the lister to sell me his woolee winder and 4 bobbins separately. i got a great deal and it works wonderfully. i love using it so far. i haven't tried the flyers that came with the wheel yet.
Majacraft rose bobbin carrier
my rose shipped with the new bobbin carrier, which i must admit, i'm not thrilled with. the large whorl doesn't fit on the peg when the other 3 bobbins are on it, plus it stinks as a lazy kate. my bobbins want to fly off the ends. i think i'm going to look into purchasing a different kate today.
first fiber on the rose
and here's my first fiber, some leftover llama i had in the fiber stash. nothing fancy, but good for practice.
Majacraft rose
now maybe i can finally get around to spinning up that rhineback fiber haul. ellie volunteered to help.

  3. Holy crap she's gorgeous!!!!

And you were a cute kid too!

P.S. Thanks for the tip that you were one of my MIAs! And yes, the amount of exclamation points I've used in this comment is making me sick as well.

  4. Try tipping the kate so that the bobbins are sitting upright (or almost). This should help create enough weight/friction that they should behave properly.

  5. thank you for the tip. i did try that actually but they still wanted to come off. i thought about putting pencil erasers on the tips to prevent the bobbins from coming off, but there's the other problem i forgot to mention which is that the bobbins on the carrier make the most gawdawful sound while plying.

  6. I put a couple of those "no damage" clear hair elastics (they're about the size of a dime) underneath the bobbins on the body of my Suzie Alpaca, and it works wonderfully for two-ply plying. It gives them just enough resistance to stop them from overspinning.

Have fun with your rose! I love that spoked wheel. Hmmmm . . . maybe I should get one for my Alpaca. ;o)
