the holidays might be ending but i'm just getting started on gifts

more gifts
I'm going home for a visit in January, so i just started my family's xmas gifts. this is a sneak peek--much more to come.
2ply handspun alpaca
i ended up with 676yds/15.2oz of chunky weight 2ply alpaca. it's about 11 wpi and i spun it worsted style with just a soak to finish. the top is from mountain view/sheep shed, acquired at rhinebeck. i got this top at 50% off, and now i know why. there were many felted bits that had to be removed, and the ties were on so tightly that cutting them off also cut some of the fiber. it was fairly difficult to spin and the yarn is pretty inconsistent. however, it feels nice and soft and i love the colors. it's very difficult to capture the colors accurately, because the yarn looks more purple/blue/red/green depending on the lighting. i think i'll have enough to knit the leaf lace pullover.
My New Shoes
These are the shoes Spicy bought me for xmas. we put them to good use on xmas day, at Letchworth Park. western ny had a warm spell, so all the snow was melting and it wasn't as pretty as it might have been. but the upside--not as cold. i still got plenty wet and was glad to go home and drink a nice cup of hot cocoa.

  1. I think a discount is in order for boots in such wee tiny sizes. ;-)
