just what i needed

so now that i have recently attended 2 fiber festivals and acquired many pounds of spinning fiber, including 4 washed pounds of fleece, you know what i really need?
Crown Mountain Farms Superwash Merino
yep, some more fiber.

Crown Mountain Farms was having a fall sale, and I've been wanting to try their superwash merino for quite some time now. i couldn't pass it by. my under the bed storage container is now full to the bursting point.

i bought two 8 oz bumps, in San Francisco,
Crown Mountain Farms Superwash Merino
and Under the Boardwalk.

my justification? i'll be spinning yarn to make spicy a pair of handspun socks for xmas. and i held back from buying pretty pretty colors at both fiber festivals. even though i did buy dyes so i can make my own pretty pretty colors.

speaking of which, i kettle dyed some brown sheep naturespun worsted that wanted to be something new. i will definitely be investing in a respirator before i attempt dyeing again. i'm prone to allergies and i've had a runny nose and icky lungs since last night. yes i probably should've thought of that before dyeing, but sometimes i do stupid things. the yarn came out really nice at least.

  1. I was too embarrassed to admit this earlier, but I did the exact same thing, except with fewer pretty colors (I got some Albatross).

  2. It looks pretty. What I don't understand about rovings that are dyed, is how you know before buying what it might look like when you spin it and then knit it. It must be a surprise sometimes.

  3. I'm not a spinner, but I personally think fiber is like sock yarn - it don't count as stash. :D

  4. thanks for the clarification on the navajo plying. I'm still playing around with my crap fiber and you flashing your gorgeous stash isn't helping me at all! I guess on some level I still want to make sure that I get the technique down pat before purchasing the pretty ones.. we'll see how long it'll take before I make the big leap :)
