So nice I made it twice

Today's Project(s) I Finished Ages Ago: 2 Gretel berets.
Gretel from ysolda
Project Stats for Gretel I:
Started June 3, Finished June 4
Yarn: Knitting Fever Cashmere Luxury Aran, 2 skeins in purple, a gift from Spicy
Needles: #5 and #7 circs
Recipient: Spicy asked me to knit his mother something, so I made her this hat, and another item to be revealed in a future post.
Gretel II
Project Stats for Gretel II:
Started June 23, Finished June 24
Yarn: Aarlan Alpaca Silk, 2 skeins in blue, acquired in a knittyboard trade
Needles: #5 and #7 circs
Recipient: mememe

For both hats, I knit the medium size and subbed the long-tail cast-on for the tubular cast-on specified in the pattern. I did not enjoy knitting the second one as much, probably b/c the singles yarn was splitty and it was annoying to manipulate the cables. I also cabled without a cable needle for both berets.

The purple hat holds its shape better and has nicer stitch definition, but the blue one is warmer. The KFI yarn felt very similar to RYC Cashsoft or Debbie Bliss Cashmerino to me. I think that ideally the beret would be knit in a 100% wool. who knows, i might make it again someday.

I fell out of the habit of blogging a project day by day b/c I thought it would get boring looking at the same thing all the time. but since i've committed myself to it, here's Today's Little Birds pic.

I finished both sleeves and have just begun the body. I knit the first buttonhole row. i debated quite a bit on whether to add the buttons or not, but finally decided in favor of it in the end.
