Finger Lakes Fiber Festival

yesterday was a beautiful fall day. after my frisbee game, spicy and i went to the Finger Lakes Fiber Festival in Hemlock. i got to see a lot of cool things i'd never seen before. we watched someone shear a sheep, got to see a few alpacas with their mop-top haircuts, petted a llama, looked at some very sedate cashgoras, saw a couple of big angora bunnies, and watched shepherding dogs at work. i also got a bunch of new fiber to try.
Silk Caps
4oz 50/50 Superwash Merino/Tencel
i bought some silk caps and 4oz of 50/50 Superwash Merino/Tencel from Winderwood Farms. i am hoping to spin up the merino/tencel into sock yarn for Spicy.
4oz Merino, 4oz BFL
i also purchased 4oz of merino (pink/purple on the left) from High Bid Farm. Spicy bought me 4oz of the green BFL. He also bought me 8oz of Suri Alpaca from Stone Edge Fibers. it's a deep reddish brown and so lustrous and soft.
8oz Suri Alpaca
i haven't spun any of these fibers before, so this should keep me busy for awhile. i was amazed at how many vendors (especially local) there were for being such a small event.

  1. Wow, what a haul of fiber. Spicy went with you to the fiber fest, cool. Sounds like he's totally on board with the crafting.

  2. Holy cow. That fiber looks so, so, gah, I can't bring myself to say "yummy" because that's one of my pet peeve adjectives...but if I didn't have that pet peeve, that's what I would say! :-)

  3. yay, gorgeous stuff to spin. :)

  4. Wow, nice stuff! The Merino/Tencel in particular looks sooo pretty, like it's a bunch of long continuous strands. Mmm.

  5. We have a small local one here, too, next month. I didn't expect much from it the first time I went, but now that I spin somewhat regularly, I think I'll appreciate it more. ;)

I love that pink and cream one. I promise, girly colors normally are NOT me, but I think I have a soft spot for hot pink....

(My current obsession is those weird mixed batts with all the different crap thrown in. FUn to spin, though I don't think i'd ever want a whole sweater's worth of anything.)
