the weather outside is frightful

seriously. it really is. i stepped outside this morning into the crappy crappy day, and i cannot tell you how desperately i just wanted to turn around and go back inside.

i am starting to sound like a broken record, but here is yet another picture of those damn child's french socks.
Child's French Socks
i will be relieved when they are done, believe me. i'm on the foot now, so it shouldn't be too much longer. i'm a little worried that i'm going to run out of yarn. if it happens, i'm just going to knit a contrasting toe. there is no way i'm ripping these socks back. i know that most people who have knit this pattern have really enjoyed it, but i am not one of them. i think that my problems stem from the yarn being just a little too thick for the needles and all the 1x1 ribbing. yeah so it switches every three rows, but it's still ribbing. ugh.

i finally got my ass in gear and started my dad's birthday sweater. his birthday is near the end of june, so i hope i'll have enough time. i'm knitting jarrett from rowan vintage knits minus the shoulder and elbow patches. my dad's not really the academic type. (here's brooklyn tweed's finished sweater)i am making the size large (42" chest) and i'm a little scared, as i've never knit anything so big before. i started with a sleeve in order to avoid the later Dreaded Sleeve Doldrums. i must say i am really impressed with cotton fleece so far. it has a nice drape and is only a tiny bit splitty. i've decided to go ahead and knit the sweater in pieces and then seam, because such a large sweater would get too heavy if i knit it in one piece. we'll see how much i bitch about that decision once it's time to seam it all together.

  1. I like seeing the child's french socks progress photos... they're all similar in presentation, like you could animate them all together when you're done ;)

I have to say, I like the patches on Jarett... but, yeah, I doubt my dad would like them either. Knitting for dads is hard...

  2. I love that Jarret sweater. And yeah, the idea of knitting anything other than a size small is intimidating to me too. What size needles?
