today i woke up and remembered that i own clear shoes

i feel the need to explain: a few years ago, my roommate and i had a halloween party, where we invited 250 of our closest friends (no exaggeration). there were fliers involved and my roommate told me that "the point of Halloween is to be hot." so i swear i am not a trashy whore, but on that Halloween, i dressed like one. a Hot Nurse, to be specific, complete with exceedingly uncomfortable, impossible to walk in, made my feet bleed all night clear shoes. i relived some of that pain in order to bring you this photograph:
Roza's Socks
Pattern is Roza's Socks, from Spring 2007 Interweave Knits. i used 2 skeins of shepherd's 4ply baby wool, hand-dyed by me with orange and grape koolaid in the colorway, "all hallow's eve." #1 knitpicks circs using magic loop, one sock at a time. 8 inch cuff and no mods except that i knit a plain foot instead of carrying the ribbing down the instep.

this pattern was very easy and knit up quickly. i got a bad case of SSS and it took me a long time to finish the second one. i really like how my hand-dyed self-striping yarn knit up, but it was such a hassle to make it, i don't know that i'll dye any more soon. maybe someday.

now that my unfinished pair is off the slate, i can start my dad's father's day socks.

  2. Your dye job is amazing--self-striping! Plus I like the pattern. Sorry about the shoes. I had flat clear shoes about 5 summers ago that were cute, comfortable but not naughty nurse shoes!

  3. It is wild that you own clear shoes. They sure show off the socks well though. The socks look great too. I love the stripes.

    And those heels...they're gorgeous.

  6. Yeah, just looking at those shoes makes my feet hurt! But the socks, those are just lovely. I'm finishing up a pair of Roza's myself, but in a solid color... but I like your stripes so much I may have to dive into my dwindling handpainted sock yarn stash!

  7. too bad the shoes are so painful because it would be really cool if you would wear them out with your socks. I think the pattern looks so different with your mod and the use of striping yarn--one of the great things about knitting, how you make things your own.

  11. Holy crap. I love that dye job! I'm impressed that you got orange and grape so close together without running. If I had tried that well, it would have looked like All Hallow's Hangover.
