Crafty Bitches.

i finished the cupcake sweater from SNB crochet in record time. I also frogged and restarted about 800 times. the beauty of crochet is that it doesn't take long even with constant restarting.
Cupcake top from SNB Crochet
I used about 6 hanks of Pakucho organic cotton in cafe on a size G hook. I made the smallest size. I made the length of all pieces of the top much shorter. I seamed the sleeves as cap sleeves (more angled). I added a second row of shells on the bottom hem. I also eliminated the ribbon trim. But other than that...

I am very happy with the results. I think that i finally found an appropriate use for cotton. I can't put my finger on the difference, but i really enjoyed using the cotton yarn on this project, while I hated knitting with it. i can forsee many cotton crocheted garments in my future. i also actually enjoyed seaming the pieces together-- i think because any irregularities don't show up like they do in knitting.

the top is a bit see-through, but my beige tank works perfectly underneath it. i asked my mom to send me all of my crochet hooks. i think i might have rediscovered an old love.

oh yeah, and i got a haircut too.

  1. It looks really cute! I wasn't sure about it based on the pic in the book, but I love the way yours turned out!

I know what you mean about rediscovering crochet - I haven't done any in over a year, and the patterns in this book have me looking forward to it again!

  3. Cupcake has gotten moved up the list of projects I want to do from that book - I wasn't sure I liked it on the model, but it looks really cute on you! Now if I can just decide what color to make... :)

  5. That looks wonderful! Your hair looks so cute too!

I gave up crocheting a while ago because I had such a hard time with the patterns... I loved free form, but when it came to following patterns, especially for clothes, i hit a total mental block for some reason...

Anyhoot, I love the top, kudos to you for letting the hook rise again!

  6. Very cool sweater! I've been avoiding looking at the new SNB Crochet since I've heard too many good things about it (!!) and had too many projects waiting to be started... but yours makes me want to check it out at barnes and noble :)
